The unusual background and diverse musical origins of its members are the peculiar aspects of the Ensemble "Oggimusica". From the trombone of Lorenzo Ghirlanda, who dedicates most of his activities to baroque music, to the horn of Claudio Pontiggia, whose strong point &endash;though he possesses great experience in the classical field- is jazz. A more rigorously classical background characterizes the pianist Paolo Vergari, whereas Andrea Formenti -member of the ARTE Quartett, one of the most interesting and active saxophone quartets in Switzerland-, has in many different projects explored the borders between various musical fields. The ever-fascinating world of percussion is entrusted to the experience of Maurizio Ben Omar.

As different as the experience of each musician may be, the desire for new experiences -sometimes bordering on adventures- which go beyond the oft-trodden paths is common to all.

Such is the origin of the project proposed on this album.

An exceptional guest in the concert recorded here is Irène Schweizer, who has for many years been an outstanding element in the field of piano improvisation, with a vast experience which has led her to perform together with well-known artists. There could have been no better starting point for the realization of an idea which was as simple as it was problematic: to bring together two worlds, that of contemporary written music on the one hand and of improvisation on the other, to move along the blurred border between two musical fields. Two fields which are often separated only by senseless willfullness, even in the very face of an obviously common conception of music. The meetings between different fields alternate with pieces performed by Irène Schweizer alone or by the musicians of the ensemble.
